Keeping my head on a swivel.

"I rolled up to a stoplight in the bike lane at Second and Water and was cut off by a truck. I was holding a recreational pace on my way home from work when the light turned red, and I slowed down to make a safe stop at the light. A truck came around to my left within a foot of hitting me and swerved into the bike lane to make a right turn onto Water. I yelled at the driver, but of course, they didn’t even react. It was like I was never there.

I was lucky not to get hit, but others in the same situation don’t share that luck with me. And unfortunately, that truck often reacts the same way when they do hit someone, driving away like nothing happened. Or maybe they say, “Sorry, I’m running late!” and then they drive away.

While I’m commuting or riding to pass the time, I try my absolute best to keep my head on a swivel at all times because I know that I have to Look to See and I have to See to Save myself."
